One hundred years after the declaration of World War I in 1914, The Perth Mint presents this 2014 stamp and coin cover commemorative.

The coin’s reverse features a group of soldiers marching underneath a representation of Britannia, wearing a Corinthian helmet, symbolic of British liberties and democracy. The inscription 1914 – WHEN THE EMPIRE IS AT WAR, SO IS AUSTRALIA AT WAR, and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark are also incorporated into the design.

Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination, and the 2014 year-date are shown on the coin’s obverse.

Affixed to the envelope is an official Australia Post 70c stamp featuring a photograph of volunteers queuing to enlist outside Victoria Barracks in Sydney. The stamp is postmarked for the first day of issue.

Commemorating this important part of Australian history, the uncirculated aluminium bronze coin is housed in a beautifully designed envelope, featuring an original World War I photograph of troops boarding a ship to war, with a circular window revealing the coin’s reverse and obverse designs. The envelope includes Australia Post’s Seal of Authenticity and official release number.
